Covid-19 remains a serious health issue. Greene County public health director Becky Wolf on June 4 reported the death of a Greene County resident due to Covid-19. The county’s death toll due to the pandemic is now at 11. “Covid-19 is still a real threat. Please get vaccinated,” Wolf said.
She reported that 3,696 persons, 42 percent, of all Greene County residents are fully vaccinated. Of those 65 and older, 80 percent are fully vaccinated. Among persons age 12-18, 3 percent are fully vaccinated and 13 percent have received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Among the county’s Hispanic residents, 11 percent are fully vaccinated and 7 percent have received their first dose of vaccine.
The goal is to have 75-80 percent of all Greene County residents fully vaccinated. “As we work to increase vaccination rates in our general population, we want to ensure ‘health equity’ for those who want the vaccine, but experience barriers to access, such as the homeless, those who lack transportation, or our Hispanic residents. Individuals in these groups are often at higher risk for serious complications due to a COVID-19 infection. Everyone deserves to be protected,” Wolf said.
All three vaccines available: Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson. A Pfizer #2 clinic for students ages 12-18 who received their first dose at schools will be held June 10 and June 11 from 10 am to 4 pm at Greene County public health. No appointment is necessary.
